Making comic books

Welcome to Artithmeric, the only platform you need to help you bring your comic books to life. Some of you may have already started working on your masterpieces, but for the few of you that have only toyed with the idea but never really knew where to start, this post is dedicated to you.

When it comes to making comic books, and we use the term “making” very loosely because it doesn’t begin to explain the amount of work that goes into making or creating a comic book, you need to keep the following points that we will be discussing in mind at all times.

To start with, you need to come up with a storyline – this will require a bit of brain power as it is not nearly as easy as it sounds. Once you have come up with an idea, you will need to begin plotting down the main ideas which will aid you in creating the illustrations and the actual story that will be in the comic book that you will be making.

Once you have got the basics done, you need to decide who will be writing the story and who will be illustrating your story – if you are an overachiever and can do it all, your job becomes a little bit easier.

It is important to remember that writing for a comic book is not the same as writing a novel when making comic books it is important to remember that your images tell the story and the text needs to add to this, not the other way around. Less is more when it comes to the text and that is why the visuals are so important. The text needs to support the images, and not repeat what has already been said or illustrated.

Writer’s block is completely normal and there is no harm in taking a break to regroup throughout the process and remember to read through your work as you go along to make revisions as you deem them to be necessary.
